Sniper Elite: Resistance is a series about the power fantasy of living as the ultimate sniper. That’s the main thing that the game should be loved for. Whether you are a fan of the series or a newcomer, it will vibe with you if you are into sniper fantasy. It is truer for the former than for the latter. Sniper Elite 5 showed us the potential of the series and was a high point for the series. The game had some rough edges, but despite its smaller budget, it managed to be an amazing tactical stealth shooter.
The developers have decided to keep the game in line with the previous game and series in general. It is a spin-off that uses the series’ high points as its foundation. The result is engaging content in both solo and multiplayer gameplay. The overall feel can be familiar, but the core gameplay and design choices manage to deliver a satisfying experience. All this makes you wonder, is Sniper Elite: Resistance worth it? Let’s find out.
Premise
This is the first time that you are playing anyone other than Karl Fairburne, who has been the main character since the beginning. This time around, the shoes are being filled by Harry Hawker, who has been a secondary character in some of the previous games. Sniper Elite: Resistance takes place alongside the events of Sniper Elite 5. He is on a mission in France, where he has to work with the resistance in France to discover and stop the Nazi plan for a secret weapon that can turn the tide of war.
The story has never been the main focus of the series, so what the game is offering is pretty much what you would expect from it. It’s not like people were coming at it and expecting a good story. The writing is good enough, the voice acting is decent at best, and the characters are pretty generic.

The real focus of the game is putting players in carefully designed open areas and arming them with tools and weapons to deal with the enemies. That’s when the highs of the game are in full swing. Similar to the previous game, each new mission takes the player to a different map.
The variety that it offers is one of the game’s biggest positives. Not only does it eloquently bring the historic location to life, but exploring it is fun as well. Analyzing a location from outside and then moving in stealthily is when the game is at its best.
The Stealth
The stealth mechanics also don’t lag behind, which is not unexpected due to the series’s track record. Enemy AI and the stealth mechanics of Sniper Elite: Resistance make your experience good throughout. The way it handles all this is not something new, which won’t be a surprise to you if you have played Sniper Elite 5. That’s not something to frown over, as Sniper Elite 5 was not a bad stealth game at all, so there shouldn’t be any issue with Sniper Elite: Resistance doing the same.
Similarities, Upgrades, and Gunplay
The similarities with the previous Sniper Elite game also mean that it inherits all the problems that the previous games had. Movements are also not that smooth, which can get in the way of the combat. This can be especially problematic if you interact with the environment, such as climbing or taking cover.
Shooting mechanics have seen improvements, with gunplay being tighter in Sniper Elite: Resistance. The sniper rifle is the main weapon, and that’s what you will be using most of the time. It is a game of being a sniper, so the use of a sniper is not a surprise. Sniper is still as good, if not better. Firing from range considering the surroundings, and seeing the series’ signature X-ray kill is when the sniping is at its best. The gory X-ray mechanics keep the experience fresh throughout.

The Side Content
Moving around in the sniper resistance map is anything but boring. The amount of stuff available for you to do is another major highlight for Sniper Elite: Resistance. Each map has its own collectibles and optional stuff to do. How you approach these activities is up to you, and these activities will not dictate your approach.
To make it even better, every situation that you encounter can be completed in a wildly different manner. It’s up to you to decide how you eliminate a target or distract enemies; there are always multiple ways to complete the objectives. Such an approach to gameplay has always been the series’s strength, and it continues in Sniper Elite: Resistance.
The exploration that the game offers is also pretty good, due to the sense of discovery that the game offers. While you go through the map, you will come across different secrets. You can come across hidden locations with different quests and challenges, get more intel from the conversation between two enemy soldiers, find the hidden path to the main quests, and even find workbenches to customize your stuff.
There is enough content in each map that you can easily dump two to three hours in each map or even more. The combination of these factors makes the game more rewarding.

General Gameplay
The story mode of Sniper Elite: Resistance can be completed in 10 to 15 hours, depending on the playstyle. It offers a lot more than the story mode. There is co-op mode, invasion mode, and PVP multiplayer elements to play. It is a series that places huge emphasis on the campaign, and that part has been done well.
PVP multiplayer offers tactical battles on carefully crafted maps. There are also propaganda missions, which are small missions that should not be ignored. It offers more tactical encounters since it offers many objectives that rely on stealth.
Verdict
Sniper Elite: Resistance does not invent a new wheel and stays close to what made the series famous in the first place. It should be considered that it’s not the series’ intention to be one. It is a game that leaves that kind of stuff to other games to do their tried and tested stuff.
The game focuses on intricate level design, tactical shooting, and stealth. These elements embody the core idea that the game presents. It is not a big leap forward for a major installment in a franchise. However, its reliance on Sniper Elite 5 elements creates an experience that will be good for both fans of the series and stealth games.
