Another year so another Call of Duty and this time we got Call of Duty Black Ops 6. At this point, it’s written in stone that we will get a new Call of Duty every year. Anyway, let’s get to the main point and discuss the three different modes that the game has to offer. The three modes are campaign, zombies, and multiplayer. This year the overall package is not bad for a Call of Duty game.
There is quite a lot of stuff to do even if a lot of it feels similar. From campaign to multiplayer to zombie, all of it have something interesting to bring. What mode players decide to settle on will depend on their preferences. The game does a good job of bringing new stuff to its different modes which can keep players interested. It is a Call of Duty game so the Call of Duty stuff is there if you are interested in it.
There is some new stuff that brings huge changes to how you approach the game. How many of these gameplay changes are needed to make the game feel new is up for debate. These gameplay changes do how a huge impact on the gameplay which brings us to the question, Is Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Worth It? Let’s find out.
Campaign
One of the things that stands out is the campaign which is a lot better than the mess of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 campaign. It’s more interesting and just an overall good package. This time around it is 1991 and a new era. Dessert Strom is happening and you have found a group of soldiers from around the world. You are now solving the mystery behind a dangerous international force. Some of the characters from the Black Ops series are back.
The Gameplay
You have access to a spy hideaway in Call of Duty Black Ops 6. You can walk around in that place spend in-game currency and talk to different teammates. The currency can be used to unlock perks that can be used in missions. It is good to use these perks but they don’t make a major difference. It is not like there is a lot to customization but it is good to have them.
You will constantly be changing your equipment and tactics because the game will hit you with a wide variety of scenarios. Having the choice of customization is good because we don’t always get that in Call of Duty campaigns.
You will go to the board to access missions and these missions take you all around the world. There is nothing completely new but it is fresh which makes it interesting. There are missions in big offices, open areas, marketplaces, military establishments, and stuff like that. You will be going through these areas while running and gunning. There is a good fun factor at play here. The good music of the 90s and a glimpse of Bill Clinton. Eventually, it all leads to you being caught up in Desert Storm.
The Missions and Open Sequences
There are even some open-ended missions, where you have the ability to make decisions. You will be in a desert in Iraq and it is up to you to decide how you destroy three targets. You will have the option to snipe, use stealth, plant a C4, and get out in Call of Duty Black Ops 6. Or there is also the option of going in gun blazing.
You also have the option to explore the open areas and do side missions which will grant more attack power like air strikes. It is a good way to handle exploration because it makes them feel rewarding. It is a good way to find more enemy engagements. Unlike the Modern Warfare 3’s sequences, these are much better and carefully crafted with better enemy encounters.
General Gameplay
A lot of it feels similar, from characters, pacing, music, and the general feel of the game. There are some amazing moments to discover and the visuals are top-notch. There is a good amount of detail and the music makes it better. Missions can start and end in a completely different manner. Some missions can even shift between times or shift around in different sections which keeps the experience fresh. It impacts the experience for both gameplay and storytelling.
There are some weird plot points and the Call of Duty Black Ops 6 can get pretty wild at times. It is unexpected to see this type of game with such twists and turns. AI of the NPCs is not good which makes the game quite easy. It’s better to play this game at a higher difficulty than normal if you want to have a good experience.
Some of the pre-rendered cut scenes do not look good at all. It will take you about 8 hours to complete the game. It’s a good ride with lots of action sequences. This is among the better campaigns that we have seen in quite a while.
Multiplayer
The combination of a new movement system, faster gameplay, and really fast TTK (Time To Kill) makes everyone fast and more lethal. This time around, everything has been cranked up. It is so fast that it almost feels like it’s going beyond the acceptable level. If you are into the fast Call of Duty then there are things to like here. Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is a good multiplayer overall. I haven’t seen major bugs and everything works nicely.
Movement
The introduction of omni-movement is not only a change in movement but also acts as a new feature. Omni-movement enables you to sprint in any direction so you can hold the side button and sprint sideways. You can sprint and dive in any direction. Using it during gameplay is quite fun and can result in some interesting scenarios.
While you are prone, you can have will have a 360-degree view of your surroundings in Call of Duty Black Ops 6. Getting in and out of the prone state is also really fast. So if you have been tired of everyone sliding around while running and gunning then expect more of it. There is less bunny hopping since there is less need for it so there is that.
Once you figure out the basics and get used to the game, you will be dodging all around. Using it does not mean that you will automatically win in all scenarios. You have to use it when it is needed. The omni-movement is just a cog in the machine. Other tweaks done to the gameplay, support it. These changes show that the adjustments were made in favor of the new faster movements.
Movement is a major change since there are no big modes or loadout changes. It is the same thing that the series has been doing for the past few years but this time, it is done a little better. It is also noteworthy that the game is not completely broken at launch. The developers are not trying to do something new but are just focusing on what works best.
Changes to Gunplay
Multiplayer and Zombies are done quite well. It feels good to play which is the main takeaway. Speed of gameplay and movements are the biggest two offerings of the game. TTK (Time To Kill) of the game is really low. It means that single-shot weapons and sniper rifles are even more powerful. Shotguns are pretty much useless unless you are really close to the enemy.
The auto-aim has also been made weaker. At a glance, it might seem like an improvement but considering other changes it has made the skill level for players even harder. That does not mean that it is all bad in Call of Duty Black Ops 6. Skilled players can flex their skills and pull off some really crazy kills. It does mean that a lot of casual players are going to get left behind.
Maps
Maps were not good in Beta and the developers have made some changes to them to make them better. The flow has been improved and changes have been made to capture position. Maps don’t always work best with the omni-movement system. The design of the maps is good but they don’t work well with certain match types in Call of Duty Black Ops 6. The design works well with Death Match but some of these maps are not good for Hardpoint and Domination.
There are some new maps and are not remastered versions of maps from previous games. These maps are pretty congested and when it is not congested then they are way too open. So these maps lack balance between open and closed spaces.
Maps look good so they are not lagging in the looks department. There are also some small maps where you will constantly run into other players. In these maps, you can run into other people after one or two seconds of spawning.
The Call of Duty Stuff
If you like the chaos of Call of Duty then you will like what’s being presented here. Call of Duty Black Ops 6 looks good but can be blurry at times. On some maps, it can be a little harder to figure stuff out. Things are busy at times, so enemies can get lost in it. It does not ruin the game but it is something to consider. For players who are into fast-paced games then this will feel right at ally.
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 looks good and most of the operators look cool with the music, the presentation of it is quite good. There are no generic new game modes just to make the game feel new. It is a Call of Duty with time-tested modes. It is all old-school Call of Duty that we have come to love.
There is a new mode called HVT. In HVT, one player from a team is chosen as a high-value target. Taking down that target gives you a point. The team protecting that target gains points by protecting the target. The shooting is good but it is not as powerful as the Modern Warfare reboot. Flash is not as strong and firing is not as intense. However, all of it works quite well when combined with other factors of the game.
Zombies
Along with campaign and multiplayer, you also have zombie mode. The round-based zombies are back. It is not scarcely made zombie mode like Modern Warfare 3. It is classic zombie map action that we have come to love over the years. At its core, it is the same zombie mode that we saw in Black Ops Cold War.
Zombies have a health bar and objectives are marked on the player’s map. The maps are open which makes killing zombies easier in Call of Duty Black Ops 6. It is a more forgiving zombie experience that players have come to love. The UI can be a bit of a pain but it’s good that it can be adjusted in the menu. All of it’s just the fun zombie stuff and there are even two maps included in the zombie mode. Both of these levels are quite fun.
The Liberty Fall map takes place in a small town and has big open spaces that let you mow down the enemies. The second map is called Terminus which takes place on an abandoned island installation. To reach Pack-a-Punch, you have to turn on generators. It is a closer map that lets you confront enemies head-on. The map is so big that you can even hop on a boat and go to the islands on the map. The basics of zombie slaying are fun and satisfying. It’s better than how it was in Modern Warfare 3.
Verdict (Is Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Worth It?)
Call of Duty Black Ops 6 brings a fresh change to the series after what we saw in Modern Warfare 3. Players can love multiplayer or hate it but the things that matter is that the developers did not mess up the game. With solid zombie mode, decent multiplayer, and a good campaign there is quite a bunch you can like about the game. The balancing and stuff will decide where the game is going to go from this point onward.
The campaign is done quite well with some smart additions being added here and there. It handles the open area of the missions quite well. The multiplayer also does not lag behind even though it has some shortcomings. The new moment’s system redefines the gameplay making it a fresh experience for both fans and newcomers. Thanks to the movement system, there is quite a bit of stuff to be done in the game.
It all comes down to how the series is defined and what it does best. In the end, it is Call of Duty, how many can you make before it starts to feel the same with small changes? A good DLC adds more stuff than a full-on Call of Duty game. If you are a fan of Call of Duty and are going into the game with expectation in check this can be a good one. It is on Game Pass so if you have the subscription then you can try out the game.
